SnowFest Games

On March 4 and 5, the SNOWFEST GAMES 2022 competition in Snowboard and Freeski categories took place in Szczyrk.

The competition was attended by the top of the Polish snowboard and freeski scene, for whom winter extreme sports are a true passion and way of life.

RIDERS

The acceleration and speed of the players on the hill is guaranteed by Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo and Porsche Centrum Katowice – Partners of this year’s competition.

The transformation of the ski hill into a freestyle track was taken care of by the Vodasodova team, which is known for its exceptional precision to detail and unique international projects like X-Games and Air&Style.

The prize pool included cash prizes and door prizes for both categories, Snowboard and Freeski.

Formula and judging

Freestyle

Riders (riders) – they ride on the track and perform on the track the so-called “riders”. tricks (stunts). This is a freestyle or freestyle competition – competitors can do whatever they come up with, but they must also be able to do it. Therefore, it is not only about creativity but also about skill, about craftsmanship. Therefore, it is safe to say that they are also the artists of this festival.

Names of tricks

You can say a little about the naming of tricks (as there will be space for it) – frontside, backside, cab (switch frontside), backside, frontflip, backflip, rodeo, underflip, regular, goofy, in ski left/right, cork…. About the fact that a well executed trick should have a rake, that is, grabbing the board or the ski, etc.

Jam Session formula and judging

Competitors go down the track for a certain amount of time according to the start list : 40 min qualification, 30 min finals. As time runs out, we finish a given run – so that everyone has the same number of runs on the track.

The judges are evaluating the so-called. “overall impression” and take into account such criteria as:

Technical difficulty of the tricks
Execution (landing, rakes, smoothness of rotation)
Jump height and distance
Variety of tricks – it’s good for a competitor to do 2 different tricks
Progression, creativity, doing unorthodox tricks

Competition manager and chief judge of snowboarding

He has been involved with snowboarding since the 1990s and with SnowFest since 2016. International judge with many events in Europe and overseas t.e. World Cups, Youth Olympic Games, World Junior Championships and other independent events. He also really likes to talk about snowboarding, which is why he could be heard as a commentator on such TV channels as TVP, Eurosport and Polsat Sport.

Snowboard judge

By day a personal trainer, on weekends an instructor, judge and competitor. Founder and coach at the Take a Taste nursery and Mountainboardinfo club. He has been involved in competitive sports for more than 10 years, multiple Polish champion, three-time world vice-champion. In addition to riding and training, he is involved in promoting mountainboarding in Poland and organizing training and competitions.

He has been involved with snowboarding since 1999, a long-time IVSI instructor, SITS trainer, snowboard judge and, more recently, freeski judge. However, definitely more related to the board because skis are too easy 😉.
